Elegant Botanical Invitations for a Hawaiian Wedding

If you love beautiful botanical illustrations and classically elegant typography, then this custom wedding invitation suite for a Hawaiian wedding will have your heart going pitter-pat. The gorgeous suite was created by Jen Simpson Design for Emily and Derek, who were married at the equally gorgeous Haiku Sugar Mill in Hawaii this past November.

Jen shares about the creative process and inspiration for this beautiful project:

Emily and Derek wanted their invitations to have a tropical feel without clichéd hibiscus flowers and tropical colors. We created a custom enclosure with a botanical print of the Hoya Pottsii, a plant native to Hawaii, to give the suite a local touch. We then designed the invitation in a semi-traditional layout with a rich script font to give the design some depth and added vintage ornament touches that are reminiscent of the sugar mill’s architecture.

Emily knew that she wanted letterpress, and we had Boxcar Press print the invitations in a beautiful, rich coffee brown color. We flat printed the other pieces and had a custom printed Envelofold made by Envelopments to enclose the suite so, when her guests received their invitations, they would open up like little presents.

In the past, I’ve often gushed about the fantastic feel and texture of letterpress, but engraved wedding invitations have an equally distinct and incredible texture, with raised lettering and design that just beckons to be touched. Crane & Co. has brought the classic printing technique into the 21st century with their beautiful, hand engraved wedding invitation designs, which feature playful, modern typography and motifs, as well as classic elegance with a modern twist. Oh, I so wish that I could reach through the computer screen and run my fingers over these gorgeous invites!

Bella Figura 2013 Wedding Invitation Collection

I’m a little bit giddy because it’s that time of year again, time for the introduction of oodles and oodles of gorgeous new wedding invitation designs and collections. I’m always excited to see what new and established trends will be represented and, well, I just love pretty invitations and look forward to seeing what both my favorite and new-to-me stationers are creating.

Bella Figura recently launched their new wedding collection, and I’ve been lost among the beautiful designs for the past few days. Styles range from the upscale, Jazz Age-inspired Fitzgerald by Ellie Snow to the oh so romantic Mae by Ian Koenig and the ultra cool Modern Dot by Erin Jang (shown above). Gorgeous, typographic designs and pretty pattern are well represented in the collection, which also features a nice dose of shimmery, foil stamped goodness.

Mila + William’s Ornate Wedding Program Fans

Today’s crush is not only incredibly beautiful, but it’s quite unique, as well. These gorgeous, Victorian-inspired, die-cut letterpress wedding programs were designed by Chauhie for Mila and William’s mid-winder wedding, and these beauties, along with the coordinating wedding invitation suite, would have any Victorian lady flushing with excitement.

Monika from Chauhie has this to say about the crush-worthy project:

Mila and William were both looking for a unique, keepsake program that had a vintage, Victorian feel to it. The fan was divided into 5 panels, each outlining the different elements of the ceremony, and a personal thank you from the couple was featured on the last panel. I had come up with several custom, decorative die-cuts for Mila and William to choose from. In the end, we chose one of the more clean-lined options. The design blended both beautifully with the shape of the fan, as well as the wedding invitation suite itself. After creating the special die-cut, the fan was letterpress printed on Cranes 100% cotton paper and hand assembled.

I love ultra modern invites, but there’s also a part of me that is very attracted to the traditional, and the ornate, classic styles from The Small Printer have caught my eye.
