2017 Holiday Card Trends : Blue Christmas Cards

Being blue isn’t necessarily a bad thing, especially when blue looks like these beautiful blue Christmas cards. Rich teal blue, navy blue, and cobalt blue are some of the hottest colors in 2017 holiday card trends, and these gorgeous hues are on display in a big way in this collection, which I’m calling “Blue Christmas”.

Blue is a wonderful color choice for Christmas and holiday cards, as it signifies a cold and frosty time of the year (for us in the Northern Hemisphere, at least), a time when deep, dark, starry skies come early in the day. These deep, navy blue, dark teal, and cobalt tones are often paired with bright whites and gold or silver foil (or glitter foil), colors that can represent snow, which brings a delicate sparkle to everything it touches.

Blue Christmas cards are also an excellent choice for non-Christmas holidays and, depending on the sentiment, can work wonderfully for Hanukkah or even New Year.

Among these beauties, you’ll see some of the other hot trends in holiday cards this year, including painterly botanicals, dynamic hand lettering, watercolor textures, and foil stamping, all of which continue to be big trends in the larger world of paper goods and stationery.

If you’re looking for lovely blue Christmas holiday photo cards with a color palette that stands out from the classic red & green, then you’ll definitely want to have a gander at these designs, which represent some of the best in holiday photo card design this season.

Lyla + Chris’ Preppy, Golf-Themed Save the Dates

Today’s clever invitation crush comes to us from Roseville Designs, who created these fun and preppy, golf-themed save the dates for Lyla + Chris’ upcoming country club wedding. Lovin’ that gorgeous, green argyle envelope liner!

Sandy from Roseville Designs shares:

Lyla + Chris are having an elegant and preppy May wedding in Greenwich, Connecticut. They love golf and, since their wedding weekend will be hosted at a country club, they wanted to tie that into their design. I created a custom “monogram” with golf clubs that can be used as a motif throughout their wedding paper story. Here, we incorporated it as part of the return address on the envelope. For the actual save the date, I went for a classic calendar look, which we had flat-printed on textured felt stock. The final touch (and my favorite detail) is the bold argyle envelope liner, which pairs nicely with the elegant look of the actual card.

Gorgeous Gold Foil-Stamped Calligraphy Invitations

Gold Foil Stamped Calligraphy Wedding Invitations

It was crush at first sight when I spotted this completely amazing, gold foil-stamped wedding invitation suite over on Pinterest recently. This stunning invitation suite was designed by Kate Allen (the bride) and features amazing calligraphy by Plurabelle, as well as plenty of perfect little details – gold foil-stamped confetti patterns throughout the suite; a slick envelope liner featuring teal, coral, gold metallic, and navy stripes; a very cool, typographic save the date; a custom directions map; foil-stamped lips (sex-ay!); and probably the most awesome dinner & dancing/reception cards that I’ll ever see (mini envelope + gold foil-stamped arrow = love!). I’ll be swooning for weeks over this incredible suite.

Becca + George’s Rhode Island Beach Wedding Invitations

Beach Wedding Letterpress Invitations

Ooh, I’m totally crushing on this soft and romantic beach wedding invitation suite that Parrott Design Studio created for Becca and George’s June wedding. The rich navy silhouette illustrations that feature throughout the suite are evocative of the Rhode Island beach town where the couple is getting married, and the seagull patterned envelopes bring a playful touch, perfect for the fun & casual day that Becca and George have planned.

The pink reply cards are one of my favorite details. First, the combination of pink and navy – love! The use of pale pink stock is unexpected, yet it fits so wonderfully with the navy and green in the rest of the pieces in the suite.

Ornate Navy + White Wedding Invitations

Ornate Navy Blue + White Letterpress Wedding Invitations

I developed an obsession with navy blue about a year and a half ago, and the obsession with this rich and lovely hue doesn’t seem to have waned a bit. These stunning navy and white letterpress wedding invitations by Sarah Drake only serve to maintain my love of all things navy blue, and the ornate scrollwork , frame elements, envelope calligraphy, and classic type make my heart go pitter pat. A truly outstanding custom suite for Margaret and Jake’s classic affair.

Hannah + Tim’s Vintage Elegant Wedding Suite

Vintage Elegant Pattern Wedding Invitations

For the past year or so, my favorite navy “color partner” has been either pink or fuchsia, but I have to say that this suite may just have turned me on to navy and orange. The lovely wedding invitation suite was designed by Kathryn Colohan for Hannah and Tim’s outdoor autumn wedding, and the mix of slightly aged-looking patterns and type create a look that’s very “vintage elegant”,  just what the couple wanted. The mix of patterns featured throughout the suite was inspired by the origami swans, created using a mix of patterned papers, that will adorn the alter at the wedding ceremony.

Navy + Silver Passport Bar Mitzvah Invitations

I’ve been seeing a lot of fun Bar and Bat Mitzvah invites lately, including these creative cruise-themed passport Bar Mitzvah invitations by Custom Paper Works. The navy blue and silver foil stamped accents work so well together, and all of the details are so much fun. I really like the interior destination stamps featuring Lane’s favorite places, and he is too cute in his captain’s hat in the “passport” photo.
