My heart is still fluttering about after perusing their beautiful collection of custom projects, as well as their letterpress wedding invitation templates, which include the jaw-droppingly gorgeous Vintage Affair, a travel-inspired suite that showcases vintage stamps, die cut cards, and design that’s so lovely that I want to weep with joy. Seriously, I’m crushing that hard on this suite. Happy sigh…

Die Cut Wedding Invitations by Smitten on Paper

Earlier this week, I featured Smitten on Paper’s totally cute, circus-themed party goods over on Paper Crave and, as I was browsing around the Smitten on Paper site and checking out all of the other lovelies that they offer, I spotted their collection of absolutely beautiful, die cut wedding invitations. The lovely designs would look classy no matter the shape of the invite, but the decorative die cut shapes create an ultra elegant feel that’s sure to stand out. 2012 Wedding Invitation Trends : Texture, Texture, Texture

The feel of an intricate, laser or die cut detail; the striking appearance of lustrous, foil stamped typography; the organic appeal of a wash of watercolor – it’s all about texture, and I am loving it!

Wedding invitation designers are finding all kinds of innovative ways to give their designs additional depth and interest, and the great news is that, whether you’re in the market for custom, hand-painted, watercolor letterpress invites a digitally printed, watercolor wedding invitation suite, there’s sure to be a invitation design out there that will rock your world.

Watercolor

Love them or hate them, watercolors were white hot in 2011, and I think that watercolor elements will continue to be a massive trend in both invitations and stationery in 2012. This multifaceted element can add an ethereal touch to a straightforward, typographic design, or it can set the tone for the whole suite. Watercolors can be splashy or soft, dainty or bold, and they can work equally well as small, complimentary details or as the base for entire pieces.

Painterly style, on the whole, seems to be making a comeback as designers are taking time away from the computer and breaking out their art supplies to create designs that have a more organic, hand created feel. Be on the lookout for more gouache and acrylic elements in the future, too.

Foil Stamping

A little bit of luster goes a long way, and even a touch of foil stamping can make the difference between an invitation that’s “meh” and one that’s “wowsa”. I’m not just talking silver, gold, and bronze (thought I love them all dearly), either. Fuchsia, brilliant blue, teal – companies like Bella Figura, who recently unveiled a foil stamping filled wedding invitation collection, offer a range of swoon-worthy, metallic hues.

Laser and Die Cutting

Laser and die cut details are making an appearance in a growing number of clean, modern wedding invitation designs, and this is most definitely a good thing. Both have always played well with traditional/ornate designs, and it’s great to see these techniques getting more play in unexpected, non-traditional ways. Ornate, laser cut belly bands and wraps will always be breathtaking, but a sleek, laser cut serif face can be just as magnificent.

Mason Jar Wedding Invitations

I am all about mason jars, and it was crush at first sight when I spotted these Mason Jar Marriage wedding invitations by Honey Bee Invites, a new wedding invitation design company based in Atlanta, Georgia. The fun, die cut design and red/teal color combo instantly caught my eye, as did the super cute, baker’s twine tie at the top of the invites. Daffodil Die-Cut Wedding Invitations

I do love invitations with unique touches, and these yummy eggplant and avocado hued custom wedding invitations for Alyssa and Tim by Luscious Verde have a few subtle details that really give the entire suite a punch of pizzazz . The sophisticated, square wedding invites feature the always swoon-worthy Nelly Script, which contrasts nicely with the more buttoned-up Copperplate Gothic for a look that’s upscale and romantic, and daffodil die-cuts add a bit of unexpected playfulness to this classic suite.

Meridith and Jon’s Letterpress Wedding Invitations

I can’t think of more perfect wedding invitations to feature as my first post on the Invitation Crush blog. Mirabel Press created these custom letterpress wedding invitations for Meridith and Jon, their sister and brother-in-law, making the suite even more personal and special.

This custom wedding invitation suite is set in a beautiful teal and grey palette and features lovely florals, die cut envelopes with neato string closures (drool), and probably the most awesome directions enclosure that I’ve ever seen. It’s mini, it has an accordian fold, and it fits into a little glassine envelope. Perfection!
